Some Hints for Lesson Plan
Lesson plan is essential for a teacher or educator before entering a class.
Preparation of a lesson can be quite a challenging task for a teacher. There are some presentation techniques suggested by Ur (1996):
1. Reading and writing words technique is suitable for young children in the primary school. Students have their own choice of the vocabulary. Then, teacher can discuss about the words with the students follow by reading the materials. It is important that teacher must focus on the objective, that is, ability to read the material.
2. Learning a dialogue is recommended for primary or secondary school students. Students are learning the dialogue by heart. The teacher should read through the dialogue first, follow by explanation of the new vocabularies and repetition or reciting the new words. Students are reciting the new words repeatedly after the teacher until familiar pronunciations are achieved. Make sure the aim is focused on students’ familiarity of the dialogue; understand the meaning of the dialogue, finding ways to stimulate the interest in the text through the content, presentation, visual illustration or various other means (Ur, 1996). Students can become the characters in the dialogue, taking turns to read their parts. Similarly, alternating the characters can enhance the familiarity of the new vocabularies inside the dialogue.
3. Accusations are useful for Adult students. It is important that the teacher is a humorous and resourceful teacher who enjoys making remark such as yelling “YOU’RE LATE!” and then, walking into the class, a good way to engage the student. Then, the teacher may give the students’ opportunity to participate in the act. It is a useful way and definitely reinforces and strengthens the learners’ desire for learning. This way, the teacher is creating an atmosphere of high attention and motivation by his or her humour in the initial ‘taboo’.
4. Dramatic soliloquy is a good technique for middle class using Shakespeare play for example according to Ur (1996). The dramatic play by the teacher is a way to heighten the attention of the perceivers and alert them the purpose of the content. Foreign language students will need the teacher to clarify the meaning of the Shakespeare’s content.
If a teacher can act it is great. God does not grant the same gift to every teacher! A good and effective presentation is depending on the teacher.
