Spanish: A Threat to Language
An article discussing the legitimate threat to languages around the world and how Spanish is a danger to it.
First let me get one thing straight: I’m not a racist. I love the Spanish, Mexicans, Puerto Ricas, Aztecs, and Latin America in general.
The problem is that the spread of Spanish is happening rapidly in America, and we need to do something about it. As it currently stands Spanish can be considered a second language here in America, which isn’t a bad thing, but I have a reason to believe it has a real chance of becoming the number one language in our country. The reason is because recently the population of Hispanics in America has increased. While it may be a stereotype most Hispanics know Spanish and they speak it. When more people begin to speak a language it obviously spreads which means in increases in popularity.
While nearly everyone in America does speak English and it’s a little foolish to be paranoid of what may just be an idea of what will happen in the future, I fully believe Spanish will one day overtake English as the primary language in America. Afterall, it was a country founded upon the idea of change and freedom so if the culture takes a drastic change at one point sooner or later then America is simply following what idea it was founded upon.
What do you guys think about this? Will Spanish overtake English or am I being paranoid?

Sinceramente, considero que eres un paranoico, dudo que el inglés esté amenazado por el idioma español. Probablemente será, a futuro, un país bilingüe, lo cual será bueno. Pero de ahí a pensar que será un país de “sólo” español, es una tontera.
Saludos.
