Standardized Testing : is It Ruining Your Childs Education?
Standardized testing. Has your childs education lost focus? Are they teaching them life skills or exam tactics?
3. Students
Your child will only learn one thing from school. How to take an exam. Because exams are what standardized testings are. A schools wishes for its students to do well so they can improve their ranking. Do you want this for your child? Society demands a lot more than simply taking an exam? Can you simply take an exam and become a doctor? What your children are being taught is how to tackle an exam, even if the content is unknown to them. Try fluking a university course test based on exam tactics. Then when you enter a job do you take an exam to solve a problem? Will taking an exam build a house? It takes alot more than that, there are real problem solving skills involved not the problem solving your child does on words.
What defines a good school then?
You shouldn’t look for a school who is in the top 10 or the top 3. A good school doesn’t focus on tests. but focuses on skills that boost your child’s knowledge, problem solving skills, self esteem and application of concepts. If you find a school that treats itself as a community then your off to a good start. it’s not just what happens in the classroom that matters, your child needs to be able to socialise well and be willing to help out the community. Their minds have to be filled with helping others not beating that person on the test.
So a national curriculum?
I am in denial of this, how much more would this ruin your child’s education. In fact it would ruin education in Australia entirely, schools will be forced to teach that way because it is the set normal. Schools will become the same, and the children that it manufactures will be robots that are programmed only to one thing, boost the schools ranking. You child will only become part of a big factory, one that spits out higher numbers than the school in the next suburb.
Education is not about transferring valuable knowledge and skills from teachers to students anymore. There are even dedicated classes which teachers teach exam tactics. Your kids are being conned into thinking that life is all about taking tests. Life skills are not taught anymore. How will your child cope if all they know is how to take a test.
I think I’ve reiterated my opinion enough.
Standardized testing. You child’s education is now no longer educating them. They will fall at the hands of the real world.
Happy Learning

This isn’t so much the educators’ fault. Blame the politicians who are writing ridiculous standards for your child with their feet.
