State as an Agency of Education
It is an education related article.
The state is considered as one of the agencies of education. So the state plays a great role in spreading education. It adopts various measures to work as an agency of education. Now the question arises that what this agency of education is.
‘Will to live’ is one of the greatest desires of human beings. This desire finds its expression with educational endeavor which aims at preservation of socio-cultural heritage so that social progress can be maintained. Education shows a man the correct way of livelihood. These functions of education are discharged by some agencies which sometimes exercise direct influence and sometimes indirect influence upon people. These agencies are known as the agencies of education.
The state is an indirect agency of education. As an agency of education the state has an enormous role to play. It sets up schools to spread education. These schools, as set up by the state, work as the direct agency of education.
The state is the policy maker. So it should encourage and if needed, force the parents to send their children to school. It is the responsibility of the state to bring all the children into the arena of education. And for this it must allot money and exercise necessary and healthy control over the education.
Teachers are the inseparable part of education. Spreading of education greatly depends upon the teachers. So the properly trained teachers are indispensable for a country. The state as an agency of education arranges teachers’ training programs for the teachers. It also arranges physical and military education. The state also facilitates different educational researches for the spreading of higher education.
School is considered as the direct agency of education, but the family and the society are indirect agencies of education. Now the state being the agency of education should come up to build a good relationship between the school and the family and the school and the society.
No educational policy can flourish unless the aim and objectives of education are set. It is the duty of the state to determine the aim and objectives of education in conformity with the national aim and objectives of a country.
The state can make education free and compulsory up to certain stage. To impose this, it can adopt different policies. It can introduce mid-day meal, stipend, and other facilities to the students.
As an agency of education the state should make arrangements for educational survey and seminar. It should also look after the uniform development of education in different parts of the country. Above all, the state should use education in such a way that it can properly maintain the national integration of the country.
