Timeline of Steven Spielberg’s Life.
1946 Steven Allan Spielberg was born December 18, 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Arnold and Leah Spielberg. He was the first child of four. He had three younger sisters, Anne, Susan, and Nancy.
1949 The Spielberg’s moved to Haddonfield, New Jersey, the year Steven turned three. They moved to a middle class neighborhood, with streets lined with trees, and two story colonial houses.
1957 The Spielberg’s moved to Phoenix, Arizona. The move was really hard on ten-year old Steven. He was Jewish, unlike most people in his neighborhood, which made him feel different and lonely. After the move, he started doing worse in school and studied just hard enough to make it to the next grade. His father began to tutor him in math, which was his least favorite subject.
1964 Steven used the money he had won, from his forty minute movie Escape to Nowhere, to pay for his next film Firelight. Firelight was a story about mysterious colored lights that appeared in the sky late at night and snatched people for an alien zoo. On March 24th firelight was shown at a local theater. It was a big success. The next day, Steven and his family moved to Northern California, where 17 year old Steven would face the biggest challenges of his life.
1965 Steven graduated from Saratoga high school. Steven’s parents got a divorce, and Steven decided to stay in California with his father, so that he could be close to the campus of the California State College, where he intended to go to school. Steven’s sisters went to Arizona with their mother. Steven then attended California State University at Long Beach.
1968 Steven made a film called Amblin and showed it at Universal Studios and he signed a contract with them so that he could direct television shows.
1985 Steven marries Amy Irving. They have a son, and name him Max Samuel.
1987 Steven receives the Irving G. Thalberg award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science for his special contributions to the film industry.
1989 Steven and Amy get a divorce because the demand of two different careers was making their life together to hard to handle. They shared custody of their son Max. The breakup was very devastating for Spielberg.
1990 Steven’s daughter Sasha was born.
1991 Steven Married Kate Capshaw, the mother of Sasha, in a traditional Jewish ceremony. His son Theo was adopted.
1992 Steven’s son Sawyer was born.
1994 Steven won Best Director and Best Picture Academy award for Schindlers List. He creates the survivors of Shoah Visual History Foundation and the Righteous Persons Foundation and Starts his own movie Studio, DreamWorks SKG.
1995 Steven receives the lifetime Achievement award from the American Film Institute.
1996 Steven adopts daughter, Mikela, and his daughter Dustry is born.
2000 Broadcast Film Critics Association name Steven Spielberg the filmmaker of the decade and he also receives the Directors Guild of America Lifetime Achievement Award.
2002 Steven receives a bachelor’s degree in film and electronic arts from California State University.
