What is a surgeon?
A general surgeon is a physician who has been educated and trained in the diagnosis and preoperative, operative, and postoperative management of patient care. Surgery requires knowledge of anatomy, emergency and intensive care, immunology, metabolism, nutrition, pathology, physiology, shock and resuscitation, and wound healing.
What is a surgeon’s everyday life like?
A lot of surgeons tend to be very stressed, because of their work. There could be very depressing days because of losing a patient, and there could be very nice days because of saving a patients life. Many surgeons’ are very patient – patience is a virtue. A lot of surgeons make quite a big amount of money – the average for an experienced surgeon is $250, 000.
How do you become a surgeon?
To become a surgeon you have to complete four years of undergraduate school and obtain a bachelors degree. You then have to be accepted into a medical school and complete another four years. Then after that, you have to be accepted into a surgeon residency program that takes about 2 – 4 years more. All in all, it takes about 10-12 years. It us quite a long journey but a very rewarding career that pays exceptionally well.
