September five is celebrated as Teacher’s Day all over India.

September 5th is being celebrated as ‘Teacher’s Day in India. It is the day to express the gratitude and respect for our teachers who serves as the beacons of light in our lives. Since ancient times, Indians are aware of the Gurukul systems. Guru is considered to be a supreme authority and is well recognized and accepted in a society. The same culture is being followed in many ways.

The teacher’s day is celebrated as a tribute to the devotion, sacrifice and efforts of the teachers to educate and enlighten the children. The history of teacher’s day goes back to the times of Dr. Radhakrishnan, who was a great scholar and teacher. His full name is Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was also the first Vice President of India. Later he became the President of India. It is his birthday on 5th of September that we all look forward to celebrate as Teacher’s Day. History says that when his students sought permission from him to celebrate his birthday, he suggested to them to celebrate as the Teacher’s Day instead, thus paying recognition to all the teachers. From that day onwards, September 5th is celebrated as Teacher’s Day all across India.

On this special day, students and teachers celebrate together with vigor and joy. There would be many plays, games and other fun filled activities in the schools for both the teachers and the students. It is a tradition that the students bring small gifts and greeting cards to their dear teachers on this day. For the teachers, it is this day that they realize the respect and recognition the students and society owe to them. It requires a lot of commitment and sincerity in gaining the appreciation and fondness of the students and the society. Giving flower bouquets and cards are just the token of love and respect that one have towards their teachers. Thus it becomes a celebration for everyone indeed.
