Teachers: How to Understand Your Students?
One of the best ways to impart teaching is to understand your students. How you’re going to do that?
One of the best ways to impart teaching is to understand your students. How you’re going to do that? You have to understand their level of understanding, individuality, certain behaviours, different characteristics and their full potentials. Most teachers believe that all students are unique, not all of them are alike. They have different characteristics and similarities also. Teachers, who understand the capacity of the students, know their limitations and boundaries, understand student’s personality are find it easier to teach and impart knowledge.
How does the teacher know that she or he understand the students? Let’s try to take a look.
Individuality
Teacher should respect the student’s preference on how she or he likes to be called. If the students doesn’t like first name basis and she or he likes to be called by her or his family name, so be it.
Levels of learning
We all know that at school, teachers will categorize the students. Between fast learner and slow learner. Fast learners are usually the pet of teachers. Slow learners, however seem to be ignored and sometimes ridiculed. This shouldn’t be the case; teacher should also understand that slow learners have their own way of developing and grasping their own learning. One way or another, in order to impart learning to each one of your students, you should understand their level of understanding.
Behaviour
Each student has different behaviour that a teacher should understand. If there’s a bully student, there’s someone who get hit. If there’s talkative child, there’s a very silent type of students. As a teacher, she or he should understand the behaviour and differences between her students.
Characteristics
Individual characteristics vary from one student to another. Every teacher believe that every students has special characteristics of its own regardless of what race, culture, language and religion that she or he practice.
The best way to understand the students is to get to know each one of them. Respect their individuality, differences and preferences. As a teacher as well, it is at its best to get into the point of teaching. Did the students learn from you? Or did the students likes the way you teach them. Generally, teaching is not just through the book but knowing the roots of the matter. Do you understand enough to bring the best out of them? Or are you just teaching for the sake of salary, beneficiaries or just a name. Teacher is a noble job. Every teacher knows that and part of being noble is to understand the situations and conditions of the students.
