The Classroom Show and Tell

The once-a-week classroom activity that brings the best training to students.

My 4-year-old daughter is attending K-4 this year. At her school, the teacher, Mrs. Fristad, introduced this Show & Tell in the classroom once a week. I think it is really a fabulous idea. Each student is given some time to get out upfront to face the class and show the object they bring and they can talk anything about it. They can bring a toy, a picture, or just anything.

It is a great way for the kids to build their confidence to make a speech in front of the class. It is fun, and yet educational. More to it, I think this is a great training and they can learn many different skills in so many ways.

It is a training for listening and speaking skills, for effective communication. For little children, this is a great way to learn to speak and simply to describe a thing, a place, a person. They can then learn to increase their vocabulary and to learn to speak in complete sentences. Show and Tell definitely helps them in creativity too. At least with our girl, every week, we try to come up with something for her to bring in to talk. It has been fun for all of us. Anything we see or experience, we can get so excited for our little girl to take it seriously and to make her work on the subject to go in the classroom to show and talk about it. This has kept her interest high to a lot of things and make her be interested in exploring to things around her. We work through the process to collect the knowledge or facts about an interesting object, interesting people or interesting places. Because now she has a purpose to fulfill, just when we come across with anything, we will try to create the storyline and train our little girl to become a reporter.

It has been fun for all of us. I think this is totally meaningful and educational and inspiring. My daughter is very anxious about this Show and Tell. She looks forward to this once-a-week activity in the classroom.

In class, during the show and tell, the students can learn from each other too. They see how others talk and how others may have questions and what others responses are to each of their story. They can inspire each other. I think this Show & Tell is just briliant all around and is absolutely beneficial to everyone.

I participated in the Show & Tell time in the class for a couple of times being an observer. These are the snap shots of the great time they were having in the Show and Tell time in class.

For all parents, you should encourage your kids to do this, at home or at school, anytime, just take this as a fun game.

For all teachers, I think this should be implemented in just any grades. If you have not yet done so, start right away.

I agree with you about being an excellent way for the children to build up confidence with themselves and sharing something personal with the group. Nice job!

kids are really adorable and show and tell is a real nice idea.My son is also in Kindergarten and they had one, too.
If your daughter is watching Blue’s Clues like my son,you might want her to see an episode where they did show and tell.
