The Never Ending Story of University Life
This is a brief anecdote on my thoughts of University Life as a student.
When I think of University/College life, I never really expected it to be so hectic and stressful than high school. I don’t know how people deal with it, but being a university bound student has its ups and downs. However, what I find most important to me is the idea of keeping a positive attitude towards my studies. Although university was intended to be a place of learning, it has become a franchise for the next available employee applicant of the future. What does this say about our educational institution?
It has come to my attention that competition has become a way of life in this capitalist society. How are we to view education if we are only in college to get that diploma or degree to be deemed employable by corporate standards? I simply reflect on this as I consider my future options while persistently following-up on current job trends. It is some what disheartening to find that there is no real way to tell what the current labor market may hold for people who are about to graduate within the next four years.
Nevertheless, education should not be shunned for it is through education that our minds are shaped into productive beings. Those who are enlightened with knowledge have a better chance of shaping our future as we now know it. This is not to say that we are to undermine disenfranchised people. But if you are to get anything out of education, then use the knowledge you gain to better the lives of those who may not ever get that opportunity to create that difference in order to change our world for the better. BECOME a part of the SOLUTION and NOT the PROBLEM!
