Conceptual knowledge is very important as far as learning process is concerned. If you have a conceptual knowledge in any subject, you can learn that easily. By conceptual knowledge, I mean the basic know how about a particular subject. Take for example, computer-programming skills, even though a person has some level of knowledge in a computer language, if he does not have the concepts the chances are more to deliver a system which is easy to fail.

In order to grow in concepts, we need imagination and creativity. Imagination and creativity helps us to relate the concept with the real world. It helps us to be more realistic in reaching our goals. Rather than just satisfied with the already learnt or understood concepts, a person should try to gain more insight on the subject he or she is learning.

A student, learning math should take care of understanding the concepts related to math first. If a student fails to understand the math concepts and just rely on theory, he or she does not understand the concepts clearly. A person who has the conceptual knowledge clear in his mind can solve math problems much faster than a person who has only theoretical knowledge.

Great thinkers and innovators are great concept makers also. Creating a new concept requires imagination, creativity and consistency in the thinking process. A trained mind can producing amazing results in developing or improving a concept. Students need to be encouraged to learn the concepts first, before dwelling into any subject in depth.
