The Problem with Educational Discrimination
This is my opinion on how the discriminatory nature of some Casts in society play on the psyche of those less fortunate.
Lately I have been subjected to the rantings of people that ‘appear’ to be better educated than I and I have come to the conclusion that they are far from ‘better educated’ than myself.
For instance, I posted a comment on the Page of my local News via facebook in regards to one persons discriminatory comment on another members’ spelling. What gives people the right to actively and vocally impose their ‘ideals’ about a persons’ Educational level because of a typo?
What most people forget is that our great country of Canada was founded by some of the most uneducated and some very educated people. What I mean by ‘founded’ is the level of prosperity that has made Canada the country that it is. We are friendly, well versed in ALL world issues and produce some of the finest minds in the World, but none of that would have been possible without the settlers and pioneers that accomplished thing that most Canadians now would not know how to survive through….that is what our country was founded on.
Now, there are those that have IQ’s higher than the CN tower, but does that make them ‘educated’….? I think not because the ‘Silver Spoons’ believe that ‘ A higher Education will yield greater rewards’. This is not ENTIRELY true. Your parents, in a completely ideal world, are to give you the tools needed to have a prosperous life(ie: financial security, happiness, etc), but seeing that this is not an ideal world that we live in, we make do with what we have. Now, I know this is going to sound a little backwards, but hear me out…the homeless in ANY city are in there predicament for one of two reasons…..life’s imposition or choice. Those that choose to be homeless have it made to some degree. If they want to move to a different city…they can pack up and go at anytime. Now, the sad and unfortunate downfall is that well they are homeless and any Albertan can tell you that the winters without shelter are deadly.
The point I am trying to make is that you can be fresh out of College or University with a PhD in Microbiology, but you are less educated than the person who has seen first hand devastation in another country or have been put into a situation that requires them to fend for themselves with NO help from anyone family, friends, Government. The life lessons that they learn and the personal experiences are worth more than a $40,000+ Student loan debt and living in your parents basement.
If you do not believe me, I challenge anyone to go to their local Friendship centre or shelter and talk to a few people that have it less fortunate than us……and see how much you can learn…….
