The Right to Education

Education is often viewed as a fundamental stepping stone in the growth of a child.

Education is often viewed as a fundamental stepping stone in the growth of a child. One without an education can indeed survive in the world, but they will struggle when it comes to competing with someone who has had some form of education in the past. Without education we wouldn’t have come nearly as far as a society. Although it seems like circular logic, without education I wouldn’t even be able to be writing about how amazing the right to education is. I view Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to be the most important both to myself and to society as a whole. While education is beneficial to the end user as they will have received sufficient skills and knowledge to have at least basic understand of reading, writing, history, and mathematics education is also good for society as a whole as it can promote friendship, understanding, and tolerance of different views, ideas, and cultures.
All of the people that I regard as good friends I have initially met during some type of schooling. Education has provided me with the necessary skills to communicate and get along with my peers while also being able to make special connections with some of them and expand those bonds outside of the classroom. Friendship is an integral part of learning as you tend to learn, study, and grow as a person better when you’re doing it alongside people that you enjoy the company of. Without friends I sincerely doubt that I would have enjoyed high school even if I knew that it was a very good opportunity to advance my education. Friends propelled me to further my education and think outside of the box constantly in school which led to a more advanced understand of the topics we were learning.
Education has also taught me understanding of how different cultures, nations, and friendships work and that everything, while it may not appear that way, is intertwined with each other. Without an education alongside people of different backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures I would have to say that I may have been less tolerant of their difference than I am now. I quite enjoy learning about other cultures and their practices as the way that they operate is quite intriguing to me. Being able to learn alongside those of different ethnicities and being taught about them led to a greater understanding and respect for them, something that I wouldn’t have without the benefit of education. Tolerance also ties in with the idea of understanding. Having a greater understanding and building friendships with those of different races and cultures led to my being racially and culturally tolerant, which is an excellent tool in today’s society where all races and all cultures are almost everywhere. Due to the fact that everyone is so connected in today’s society one cannot afford to dislike a certain race simply because they are different. Such a thing doesn’t make sense and will only inhibit your progress as you attempt to climb up the ladder in either the social or economic world.
Education is a wonderful tool that doesn’t get nearly enough attention and support as it does. Often education is overlooked simply because society is so used to having it in place that it’s almost become a luxury. While more and more people are becoming educated every day there needs to be more attention brought to how important a good education is. I never thought much of going to school as a young student, I simply thought it was something that everyone did and it wasn’t that big of a deal. School is a necessary part of the development of a child so that they can at least become a functioning member of society. Without education the world most certainly wouldn’t be where it is today.
