The Tempest
Teaching the tempest in class.
- Divide Class into 6 groups
- Each group is given a kitchen paper and a marker
- Each group have to brainstorm whatever they know about:
- Biography of Shakespeare: What they know
- What they know about the play The Tempest
- Acting and the Globe theatre in the Elizabethan Age
- Have groups write and discuss among themselves
- Call Time. Have groups exchange their kitchen papers with the other groups.
- Groups are allowed to fill in information that the other groups did not know
- Students are asked to return kitchen paper to the original group
ACTIVATE STUDENTS’ BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE
- Arouse students’ interest by having them gather a range of objects related to the text
- SETTING: A picture of an island with sandy beaches, sea shells, picture or audio of storm
- CHARACTERS: Pictures of a spirit, a picture or drawing of a beautiful girl and handsome boy (how students imagine Miranda & Ferdinand), representation of a half-beast, etc
- THEMES: Objects representing love, justice, harmony
