The World Classroom

The Skype in the Classroom project is a promising tool that can allow teachers to share thoughts, ideas, projects, resources and so much more with colleagues from all over the world.

The advancement of telecommunication technologies makes the learning experience easier and more enjoyable for students and teachers all over the world. And this concept is what inspired Skype to create the Skype in the Classroom project which aims to connect teachers and students from all continents to their peers all over the world, thus creating one huge virtual classroom.

What exactly is Skype in the Classroom project? The goal of the project is to connect one million users/ teachers who can interact with each other and help each other. The Skype in the Classroom creates wants to create huge database where teachers can find colleagues from all over the world with which they share interest, subject or something else. From the time the project was launched until now, more than 16 000 teachers signed up to the project. The teachers that take part in the project are from 170 different countries and represent 58 different languages. Thanks to Skype in the Classroom, more than 800 projects were launched. The project also allowed for teachers to share resources one to another.

The Skype in the Classroom project is quite simple as a concept. If you are a teacher who let say teaches Spanish language classes and want to make that experience more enjoyable for your students by giving the opportunity to your pupils to communicate with a native speaker of the language, all you have to do is register in Skype in the Classroom, post your projects there describing what you are looking for and what subject you teach. If there is a teacher from Spain willing to help, then you can call Spain directly from the classroom by making a conference video call with that teacher so your students can interact with that tutor.

Of course, if you don’t have a project of your own that you can share with the rest of the teachers taking part in Skype in the Classroom, then you can take part in a project created by another teacher who shares your interests or teaches the same classes. And instead of you having to call Spain, a teacher from Spain may call you and introduce his/ her students to you.

The Skype in the Classroom project is a promising tool that can allow teachers to share thoughts, ideas, projects, resources and so much more with colleagues from all over the world.
