Thugs and Bullies, The Horrors of Modern Day Politics

Has the political scene always been littered with thugs and bullies, or is this trend new? This Chicago style politics.

Some would make the argument that this new style, this Chicago style of politics is anything but new, that it has been around since the early 1800’s, and with the advent of the Internet and twenty four hour news it is just coming into the limelight. It is the old adage; Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Recently though they have taken bullying to a whole new level, in Wisconsin, we saw rioting, violent protests, and all because the Governor was attempting to do his job. The Democratic process is nice, because if the voters disagree with how one of their leaders has performed they have every right to vote them out of office in the next election and vote someone else in. The need for violent protests that destroy property isn’t there.

Currently there are two types of protesters, the violent once, and the not so violent ones, or the peaceful ones. Wisconsin showed that the violent ones are the liberals. Go to any Tea Party Rally any where in the U.S. and you will witness first hand peaceful protests. While some of the signs might be questionable most would agree that the Tea Party rallies are a lot more peaceful then the protests on the other side.

Still there is a rush to paint Tea Party Patriots as racist, violent protesters. With organizations such as “Crash the Tea Party”; with there tactics of infiltrating Tea Party events in the hopes of making the organization look like a racist one, it is plain to see that it isn’t just our Politicians that have succumbed to bullying and thuggery.

How do we remove these ideals from Americas politics, and return us to a nation of unity? Is it even possible? There was unity for a short while after 9-11, when we weren’t separated by liberal or democrat, black or white, we were all just Americans. Wounded, but brave. Without another attack there ought to be away to unite America. Restore us, get away from the bullying.

With divisive leaders like Obama, it seems nearly impossible. No President in history has so divided the American people. Yet it might not all be his fault, we have been heading down this road for a long time. Obama has added his own kindling to an already raging fire.

In 2010 we caught a glimpse albeit brief of the “Chicago” style politics when the Democratic party went after the Chamber of Commerce. Even long time Liberal Reporter Bob Schieffer, had a hard time accepting the party line that the Chamber of Commerce was using illegal funds to buy off Republican elections. When he questioned David Axelrod about this, Axelrod responded with “Prove us wrong”. Showing Schieffer and the Nation that the White House fully intended to use Chicago style politics to defeat what they saw as the enemy. The enemy, the White house named as other American who hail under the term Republican.
