The choices for earning your degree online are boundless. Nearly every major university now offers at least a few online degrees. Some offer nearly every degree available at the institution with online options. Because you can often choose to attend the same school online that attracted your attention as a residential program, you can have much more confidence in the value of the degree.

Whether you get your degree online or in a classroom setting, the sheepskin will look the same hanging on your wall, and your transcript will carry the same weight when viewed by employers or other universities. This means if you have confidence in the school before the internet that you should be able to have the same level of trust in an online program.

Some schools that have tried to make an obvious presence online like the University of Phoenix are considered excellent choices. With private schools, state schools, and other colleges jumping online, one place to start the decision making process is cost.

Why should you pay more to get the same degree from a different school? The cost of a four year degree can vary by many thousands of dollars. Normally, you do not get a better degree, you just pay more for it. If you could get a Harvard degree online, it might be worth a few more nickels on your first paychecks. Not very many other schools will make a difference.

Flexibility of the program is another major consideration. Can you enter an online class at any point in the year or only at the natural semester breaks. The best online programs allow students to enroll in any course everyday of the year. On the other end of the class, flexibility means that you are allowed enough time to finish without having to stay exactly on a rigid schedule.

Instead of having to complete a course in a set number of weeks, look for a program that gives you six months or even a year to complete each course. You probably do not want to take this long, but if you have issues arise, you will not have to be constantly paying late fees or asking for extensions.

If you lack the discipline to work independently, you may want to seek out a program with less flexibility that requires attendance of online classes and lectures. These frequently offer interaction with the instructor beyond the occasional email or bulletin board postings. With this type of program, you get some of the benefit of the classroom setting without having to leave home to get it.

Like any degree program, make sure that you understand exactly what courses are required to complete the degree. Also, you need to see if their is a maximum time limit for completion of the entire course of study. Some programs require you to complete your degree in a set number of years. This is especially true for post graduate studies.
