Tips on Academic Study Skills for Reading and Writing
Most students have this zeal to make their best in academics and improve their knowledge. But just reading the text books and writing examinations don’t result in much academic success. There is much more than just doing this to excel in academics and further.
A student should not confine himself to reading a single text book. One should refer different text books and different articles to know deeply about a subject. Since all the colleges have libraries, it is better for a student to make complete use of the libraries. If you have to learn about a subject, read the subject in different text books by different authors. Try finding texts about the subject online and find articles about it too. In this way you get a deep knowledge about the subject and your knowledge will not be a confined one. This helps you in time to come rather than just in examinations.
One has to listen carefully to what the professor is teaching in the class. We see many people who say that they sleep in college or that they don’t listen to what the professor is teaching. But it is a very bad habit. Sometimes the way the professor teaches makes you to remember the subject more clearly than by reading about the subject for hours.
It is always better to study in groups. A group of three or four friends discussing about the subject and reciting about what they have studied makes them remember the subject for longer time. Besides this one gets interest to read much more than what they know and one feels competition which really is a very good thing for a student.
It is good to remember what you have studied in recent times when you are free and have no work. Liesurely reciting what you have read in the past few days makes you assess your knowledge about the subject.
As far as writing is concerned, one should always learn to maintain a good hand writing. It is very important not only in academic examinations but it also makes you not to think twice before writing anything in public. A good hand riting always gives a good impression about the person. As we know first impression is the best impression, hand writing gives a good impression about you to the professors. To learn to write well, you have to practice writing frequently.
You should learn to write in good English. It is always very important to make a person understand what you intended to say through your writing. If you are not good at formal English, write in good simple English. Remember to spell the words correctly and to use the punctuation marks correctly. This helps in giving a good impression about you.
These are the tips for better writing and reading for better study skills.
