Vocational Education: The Path to Success or Failure?
This is a debate speech refuting the negative side about vocational education.
My opponent’s third contention is that many times, only students from vocational programs get selected for a job, which means some employees are overlooked to give preferences to those who have been trained in a vocational program. Yes, this is true, but doesn’t it make sense to do this as well? The employees that are overlooked don’t have any training in that job before, so it would make sense to pick the people who are trained and ready, thus saving plenty of time and money.
My opponent’s fourth and last contention is that vocational education does not give equal opportunity to everyone to succeed. But this idea is problematic, because there are many other places and times in which there is not equal opportunity in education. For example, according to the Education Equality Project, by 4th grade, Black and Latino students are on average nearly 3 years behind their white and Asian counterparts. Also, wealthy families have a major advantage in reaching university, while the poor have barely any chance. Only 9% of students in the 146 most selective colleges were from the bottom half of the income distribution. These are all much more severe problems concerning education and equality. Why not try to deal with them instead?
We have shown that my worthy opponent’s arguments are inadequate. Now, I would like you, the judge, my opponents, and the audience to step into reality, and realize the truth, that vocational education is the right path to go. Thank you.
