These range from lack of direct contact with the tutor, indirect practical exposure, lack of direct supervision, limited interaction with the other students, limited utilization of college facilities.

Online education is provided through the internet. This is usually carries out through correspondents and accustomed teleconferencing technology interactions. This is usually referred to as the virtual learning. Through the use of computer technology, the tutors carrying out coaching in the college are able to present this to distant students through the internet. Online education is limited to use of the college facilities. For example, the available laboratory resource becomes unavailable. This makes it difficult to carry out technical subjects such as medicine through the internet. Online education is mainly by correspondence where study materials are provided for by the college through online data base or an active link between the tutor and the student.

This is because the lecturers and the student are not within the same locality. Most of the student’s activities are determined by personal discipline. There is also a lack of direct interaction with the student community. The only interaction which may be available is the virtual interaction which is provided by the programs during the study session. It is usually important for the students to relate on other non study affairs such as sharing cultural experiences, sports and socializing. The online study is unable to provide this because of the virtual contact.

There is lack of concrete information about the viability of the college to undertake studies in correspondence form. Much of the decision to register with a certain college is based on information obtained from the internet. It is worthy while noting that most of the internet information is applied for marketing purposes and may not reflect the true viability of a college. Other methods should be used such as advice from professionals or people with knowledge on these colleges.

Online education is also subjected to the internet fraud menace. The online scammers and fraudsters present themselves on the internet and have created websites which appear like the college websites from where they can swindle cash from unsuspecting students. Today’s the internet use is very volatile and when dealing with online aspects, the internet users must apply all the cautionary measures to ensure they are not trapped by the scammers.
