What If We Can?
Optimism in hard times.
Today, at an education workshop, teachers were reminded to leave students with “I can” objective statements. These statements ensure students leave feeling empowered and understanding how what they learned in the classroom related to their every day lives.
We can’t One educator daydreamed about I can statements and this present economny. She thought about all of the negative press daily assualting the airwaves. From rising unemployment figures to the Detroit downfall, the American economic forecast is a grim reality.
Then this educator thought about all of the I can’t statements her lower-income students daily hear.
“You can’t go to school.”
“You can’t do well.”
“You can’t learn.”
“You can’t…” The list goes on. So it is with our present-day economic situation.
“You can’t find a job.”
“You can’t get out of debt.”
“You can’t succeed.”
We can
The educator thought about these I can statements in light of the American fiancial economny. What if she, and each American, decided:
“I can get out of debt.”
“I can work hard for my children’s future.”
“I can invest wisely.”
“I can…..” The beauty of this statement is the possibilities are endless.
Empowered to Change
The educator left the seminar feeling empowered to change. She now has a powerful tool to help her students overcome the injustices of their reality, as well as a tool for her economic futuure.

I feel like I need to stand up and shout after that one! Super message. Right on! Power to the people! (Ok, so I’m showing my age. I can still cheer a good idea.)
