Ummmm, interesting article and something i’m currently reflecting on as a ‘teacher’ at a uni and ‘trainer’ in the field (social work). I think it totally depends on the subject as in social work and social care we are also trying to broaden character especially around the area of equalities. Personally i think that we need to be both as the old stlyes of ‘teaching’ are now incorproating the more active ‘training’ techniques.

Yes, I agree. In my 13 years of teaching experience, there were times I have to teach while there are situations where I need to train. Training appears to be more on the application side, as teaching provides more on the knowledge aspects. And of course, when we teach we need to consider all cognitive levels, i.e., knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation which is more encompassing than training.

very interesting article, i’m glad you point out the differences between teachers and trainers. in my own point of view, i can say teachers can be trainers as well,because a teacher’s job is multi-functional just like a computer capable of multi-tasking, a teacher develops the totality of an individual while a trainer develop only a particular skill or talent of an individual.thanks

Good article. I am an English teacher. My company (language school) wants me to call myself a trainer, but I see myself more as a teacher. Though in all fairness the boundaries are obscure. It’s more a matter of self identification.
