Where Will America be Without Her Teachers?

Where will America be without her teachers? She will fall from her status as a global leader. Other nations will surpass us in the sciences and engineering technologies. We will no longer be able to competitively participate on the global market. Our future government will be in jeopardy of falling from within because our future leaders lack the knowledge necessary to understand our constitution and how the executive, the legislative and the judicial branches exercise their respective duties.

Without teachers, who will help design future NASA spacecraft? …find a cure for cancer? …be the next Nobel Laureate recipient? …the next American President? It is teachers who guide the children in their education. They are the individuals who inspire the children to greater achievements. Yet they are not given the respect they are due. They work long hours for little pay. They have to endure the apathy of disinterested students, be constantly vigilant for those who may commit violence in the class room. They are forced to teach to a curriculum that is based on the standardized state mandated tests. They do all this because they believe in the children. Sad that our own government does not believe as strongly in them.

If it wasn’t for high school coaches, where would all the great sport athletes come from. Believe it or not coaches are teachers also. Yet it seems that all of the great athletes command more respect and pay from the American public than the public school teacher. Take away the public school coaches and you would no longer see great sport athletes. Essentially American sports would go the way of the dinosaurs.

Without music teachers there would no longer be concerts in the park. The movies would no longer have theme and background music. Our favorite styles of music would just fade away never to be listened to again. It is the music teacher that inspires the talented to pursue their dreams of becoming the next great music star.

If the current situation is allowed to continue our nation’s children will suffer. Laid off teachers are being lured overseas by lucrative offers. Our nation may or may not be able to lure them back when the schools are able to hire again. The number of students per teacher in the classroom will increase decreasing the individual attention that can be given by the teacher.
