Why People Should Study History
by Men, women, and children should all study history as it is one of the most important subjects that everybody should know about. History, if taught correctly, can be one of the most interesting subjects around.
So why should man and woman know about history?
After all history is an academic subject that is not everybody’s cup of tea (except for me, I have always loved it). With the worldwide web and numerous histories DVD available it is not a subject that is merely confined to the classroom.
Here are several reasons:
History tells us as people where we come from, as well as who we are. History tells us what it means to be American, British, French, German, or Chinese etc. A strong knowledge of history allows people to understand their own countries and societies as well as those of other people.
Understanding the history of many or several countries aside from the country you are actually from is useful especially for those of us that live in multicultural societies. To understand people from different countries and societies increases the chances of respecting them.
A strong knowledge is also useful to enable people to understand current affairs in their countries, as well as understanding the culture or cultures within their societies.
