A White Boy Learns of Racial Intolerance From Experiences

There has been a long, unbelievably insensitive disregard for equality and basic civil rights developing for the past couple of decades. Much of the progress made earlier has been lost to the greed and fear tactics imposed upon us during recent years. Finally, with the election of a man of color to be President of the United States, there seems to be, without much fanfare, a change in national attitude toward African Americans. But the victory has not been won. There are pockets of White supremacists scattered across America and they are working hard. History is rife with examples of how White Europeans and Americans have defeated and conquered lands and people. It is not because the conquerors are White or that God chose it to be so. Each incidence will show that Whites had technology (and in many cases, deadly diseases) that overwhelmed the defeated, such as Native Americans. In other cases we find the conquered were involved in civil war or some other tragic event (such as having a newly formed government which was not yet established and prepared for a war). White Europeans (mostly by means of disease) killed millions of Native Americans and conquered America. Americans, mostly White, conquered Mexico and later defeated Spain during times when neither had the means or governmental stability to repel our attacks. As a result, like the White Europeans defeating the stone age cultures of Africa and the islands, the White people began to believe that God chose the White race to be masters of the world. Hitler and Mussolini had similar conceptions. It is not true. We all have equal abilities provided by the same creator. But still, the White supremacists must have their underclass.

I am embarrassed that Texas seems to be a haven for White supremacists. Texas laws concerning gun ownership must be the most liberal in America. One can legally own a fifty caliber rifle, for example.

It seems that the remainder of the nation, with a few exceptions, are coming to the realization that the constitution is good and should be adhered to at all times, but in Texas, there are many who would seem to disagree. Much to my dismay, as a native Texan, it seems that Texas has become a haven to the White supremacists and other nuts and fruitcakes. The state government tries to force schools to teach the right wing Christian philosophies and beliefs. Our school children must recite the pledge of allegiance to Texas right after the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States (followed by a moment of silence…for prayer and meditation). The science curriculum, along with others, is being re-written to include the non-scientific teachings of right wing Christians. I can only hope that the people of Texas, and the world, will face the fact that White people are not supreme. In fact, many of the White people are truly the underclass and need to rise in social stature and intelligence in order to be equal to non-whites.

Possibly we should reinstate the universal military draft, with no loopholes, assigning conscientious objectors to support and service duties, send them to basic training together and see what happens. I truly believe this would improve human relations and would end the wars for profit. You know: “they” send “ours” to fight “their” wars so that “they” become more wealthy while “we and ours” sacrifice and pay the price in blood and tears.
