Asian American Coalition of Chicago’s 27th Annual Celebration on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.

The 2010 event’s theme is “Bridging Generations and Cultures for Progress” and is being hosted by the Filipino American community. This event is held on this grand of a scale only once a year. The Asian American Coalition of Chicago (AACC)’s Annual Celebration is the largest event of its type in the Midwest. The event will be on January 23, 2010, at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare on River Road, Rosemont, Illinois.

Event to highlight political forum, community outreach, each member community will present their own colorful display of cultural performances and artwork will be showcased. The city’s largest gala event brings more than a dozen cultures together and keynote address from detained journalist. Ms. Euna Lee who will speak about her experiences as an Asian American journalist.
Lee was detained in North Korea with fellow current TV journalist Laura Ling. The two were arrested in March for entering the country illegally. They were later pardoned in August after President Bill Clinton secured their release on diplomatic visit to North Korea.

Since 2010 is an election year, dozens of politicians from U.S. Senate, Congress, state’s constitutional officers, County officials and Judges will take part in a political forum at 5:00 p.m. Here, voters can pose questions to candidates running for public office. Primary elections take place on February 2, 2010.

“The forum will be a very unique part of our event because it will allow our community the chance to ask their questions before heading to the polls,” said AACC’s annual gala chair Aurora Austriaco. “Celebrating our community’s diversity and accomplishments are important but we also have a duty to educate and empower as well.”

Many dignitaries are expected to attend this important event including Asian consular corp., elected and appointed government officials, top business and corporate leaders, and Chicago’s major media outlets. The opening ceremony and ticketed dinner kicking off at 6:15 p.m. Over 1000 people are expected to participate.
