Culture and Society

Culture is a very significant part of the society. Every human being acts according to the teachings and considerations in relation to the culture he follows. Culture plays a greater part in shaping personalities. The first question that arises in mind after listening or reading the word “culture” is what is culture? Culture is a set of values and norms of a society, a group of people or residents of an area. Culture can be judged by means of religion, lifestyle, literature, music, foods, arts and architecture, language, fashions, behaviors, rituals and symbols employed by individuals of a society.

Culture is very rich in terms of its identification. It is not followed by only one generation but by generations of generations, which means that culture is transferred like a legacy to the coming generations. This cannot be said that culture and its values remain the same. Culture is transitional in nature. It changes with development, innovation, technology and time. Certain new features are introduced in cultural values of a land from time by time.

Change cannot be considered as annihilating the culture but as beneficial for making the culture according to the demands of the society. Culture and society are interconnected to one another and this bond is so strong that it can never be broken by any external forces. We cannot say that in a country, only one culture is followed as a whole.

The world is multicultural and now, all the countries are going towards multiculturalism. For example, in America, not only one culture is followed but many because America is a multicultural land and it accommodates people from all cultures in its society. Like America, in many other countries, multiple cultures are present. It is not necessary that one is American, so he will have American culture only. American culture is a major part of many sub cultures.

Like America, in all other countries of the world, major culture that is associated to the nationality of the land is followed along with many other sub cultures. Sub cultures and major cultures are somehow related and affect the followers. Social construction of personalities depends on the type of culture that is followed. People develop their behaviours and working patterns on the basis of their cultures.

We can never say that a certain cultural type is good while the other is bad. All the cultures of the world are good and worth following. We should not try to dissuade people of one culture and encourage people of other culture. All the people of the world are equal no matter from which, culture they belong. Because of the richness of the cultures in the world, the world is more attractive and colourful.
