Four Reasons Why I Love Black Men

In the news black men are often portrayed as something to fear. They are dangerous, shiftless, manipulative, disrespectful to women and without ambition. If you watch the news long enough you find reasons to believe that the idea of lasting black love is a fairy tale. At least, that was the case before the new First Couple, President and Mrs. Obama hit the scene.

With the arrival of this power couple on the scene, hope springs eternal that the fairy tale can come true.  Some might ask, why do you love a black man . . . well my answer is this:

  1. Black Men are Beautiful!  All of my life, there has been nothing sexier than the rainbow of color that exists in the black man.  From butterscotch tinged to blue-black, I have always found the skin a black man is in to be magnificent!
  2. Black Men are Intelligent!  I don’t consider this statement to reference just the “making the grade” type of intelligence that gets one into college and one day (hopefully) gainfully employed.  If our intelligence were based solely on that criteria, we would (and currently do) lose the race every time.  The intelligence of a black Black man goes deeper than that.  We came from kings and queens ad were subjected to all types of horrors during slavery.  Yet, we survived and fought to educate or selves. From learning to read in secret, to fighting for our civil rights, we made our own way and carved out our own education.
  3. Black Men are Vulnerable!  There is so much strength in a black man.  Given the opportunity to see their sensitive side, feel their vulnerability, witness their tears, is a moment of beauty.  Black men have been conditioned to be distant, to keep their emotions well guarded.  It is an honor and a privilege when a black man trusts you enough to reveal his vulnerability to you.
  4. Black Men are Me!  I am a black woman.  I believe that the struggles ans issues I go through are the same as those that black men go through. I love black men because within their arms, I find comfort and peace.  I find an escape from the reality of living in a black/white world.  I find me.
