Have African Americans Abandoned the Dream

African Americans have long become victims of society’s woes, questionnaires and unnecessary rhetoric. There are indeed many psychologist and case writers whom have written hundreds of books on blacks and the black family; most of which are white.

For one to say that African Americans have abandoned the dream, would be to generalize that all African Americans think alike. Yes African Americans share a culture in which is uncompromisingly the same, but by far the modes of thinking are as diverse as the time zones that represent the United States.

The African Americans I know have not abandoned the dream, yes some may casually use the n word amongst friends, yes some would rather listen to a 50 cent video than Cornell West, but this does not classify or justify a depreciation of the dream.

The dream that Martin Luther King had will live on as long as there is a continuum of disproportionate class sizes, lack of funding for majority black universities (i.e. FAMU). As long as there are leadership positions in which blacks are clearly qualified for but yet looked over. These oppositions and more will continue the dream as long as blacks continue to seek out peace, justice, and equality.

To abandon the dream would be to abandon all in which those before us have died for. There is no better dream than the dream that God gave Martin Luther King to help deliver us his people.

Thank you and God Bless!

Apparently the dream has also spread to other people, other races, other nations.
