Hispanic heritage in America

America, discovered by Spanish explorers in 1492, holds a special place for Hispanic Heritage. What began as a small dream for a life of religious freedom created the beginning of the world’s greatest country. The original thirteen colonies were divided by three major regions. New England, Middle, and Southern. Religion and government contributed to the development of distinctly different regions in colonial America.

 Religion

To begin with, religion had an enormous impact on any decisions made by the colonial settlers. Therefore obviously was a vital part in what policies were made in the colonies. New England’s biggest difference compared to the Middle and South regions was that it was the least religiously tolerant of all three regions. For example, Massachusetts Bay law required church attendance and taxation to support the church.

 Government

Secondly, government also played an important role in the colonies because government impacted religion. In New England government impacted religion by only allowing white males who went to church to vote. Another way government impacted to the three different regions is by for example; in the South Virginia’s House of Burgesses was the first elected assembly in the New World.

 Conclusion

Lastly, society and how people interacted with each other made a substantial difference and the last major reason for the three distinct regions. For example, because of the milder climate in the Middle colony agriculture was more prominent then in New England. Therefore families were spread more widely apart due to larger landholdings. Hispanic Heritage has made such a difference in America and our daily lives.
