If There Would be a Choice to Make Interracial Marriages Illegal Today Would We Vote for That?

Interracial couples are still being judged and ousted every day! There are MANY, that still think that it should be illegal today! In honor of LOVINGDAY June 12.

The interracial couple of today,

is hard working, is a major contributor of good things to society,  comes in many different forms but there are still MANY, that take issue with it and if they could, they would vote for these marriages to be illegal!

When I worked on my book “Black and white makes brown,” I came across the story of Mr. and Mrs. Loving, I never heard of them before and once I did, I became consumed with their story. The story of true colorblind love that had to endure and overcome every step of the way!

Little did I know, when I married in Tuskegee Alabama in 1979, that the law books of Alabama still stated that marriage between black and white is forbidden and punishable.   Whaaaat???? Even worse, it took until the year 2001 to get this of the law books and the tragedy is, that there where votes for keeping it on the books.

Who are the people that voted for that, what are they thinking now? How do they feel about, that President Obama is in office and his mother was white and his father African.

Well, this type of thinking resurfaced again last fall, when the justice of the peace in Louisiana refused to marry an interracial couple that came to him. His thought…..he was concerned for the children. Every time I speak about that, write about it or just think about it my spirit shutters…….this man probably has never interacted with multiracial children and knows only the bad situations that have been reported in the news. Think about it, this man resigned but his soul still stays sick and the sad fact remains that his followers that have elected him think the same way. They actually belief, that it should be a crime for an interracial couple to procreate.

So, my question is if being multi- or bi- racial endangers children to not become a positive contributing member of society, why then are so many children of parents of the same race in trouble. Why then do we hear over and over of shootings like in Columbine or other issues in schools that have nothing to do with a child being bi-racial.

The truth of the matter is, that our children are beautiful, intelligent and well rounded. If some of our children go astray or become confused, the reason usually is  because the parents have succumbed to outside pressures of society.

Children are only confused if the parents are!

So, let us make sure that we support the multiracial families that are working hard to make a living and contribute so much to the betterment of humanity.

“The multiracial family is God’s and Martin Luther King’s dream come true.”

Read books that matter with your children give them encouragement and let them know, that they are wonderful and perfect. Watch what enters their mind and what movies and literature they are reading, if it is not positive then get rid of them quickly. What goes in must come out and if it is the wrong things our children hearts and minds will be corrupted.
