Interracial Racism

A message to those who oppose interracial dating.

Time to wake up and smell the new millenium although lots of you may not want to. I see black and white couples, black and Spanish, White and Asian and…the list goes on and on! What is wrong with that picture? The answer…..NOTHING!

Since this necessary controversy usually emanates around mostly black and white couples I will put the focus there for now although this applies to all races. I am an African American first of all and I see no problem with two people who have somehow connected and allowed themselves to get lost in each other’s eyes. We can call it what we want but where the problems and opinions come from are usually those who have hangups and past racial issues: mostly our parents!

To my white brothers and sisters: I must say to you guys(especially the younger generation of whites) that I have seen so much improvement in your desires to bury racism. In the times that racism against black people was at an all time high, some of your grandmothers and grandfathers have put their lives on the line to march with our grandmothers and grandfather’s. I just find it sad that the media in those times will not let you know just how many white people died with us..and for us. I say to the white people who oppose race mixing:SHUT UP! Your dinosaur ideas are being squashed by your children and grandchildren, who are sick and tired of hearing you complaining about minorities and who disagree with your cave-man tacticts to keep a race bound by violence. You can deny it but you are not happy! If your son or daughter wants to venture out and explore different options of relationships then leave them alone! There are good men and women in all races and it has been the fault of the prejudice that we are still curious about each other’s race. We have been kept from each other for so long(centuries) that curiosity eventually set in. If it had not been for this behavior then race mixing would have never been a problem in the first place. A black and white couple walking down the street would appear normal(as it should) and I wouldn’t be writing this article. I am not asking the prejudice to change their ways or views but I am asking you to consider this: with all that hatred stored up inside you and with opinions that you are comfortably clinging on to, has it made one bit of difference in your life? Has it somehow improved your life or made your hardships disappear? Or has it done the only thing it could possibly do: move on down to the next generation? It’s your prejudice..your opinion..so you figure it out although I can pretty much guess that it has done your life no good. Before we are black or white, before we are Americans even, we are people. To me, it is not a black man dating a white girl, it is not a white man dating a black girl, it is a man dating a woman, that’s it! No more!No less! Have your hangups if you want but please don’t poison our future generations with it! If not for me, do it for your children!

I am excited! I am an African American woman with children one interracial – Hawaiian and Black. I met a man that I believe gave me the experience of love at first sight…I hope this progresses into much more. He, in a few days has given me what I’ve been missing for the last 16 years. It feels good.
