“The explosion of a bomb consisting of a powerful explosion wounded seven people, including a policeman. Their life is in danger,” said Capkin.
“The fact that the explosion occurred near a school police would let them understand that police have been targeted,” he added, declining to speculate who might be potential culprits.
Blast occurred at 09.00 (06.00 GMT) in Ettiler chic neighborhood, said a witness, CNN-Turk.
Incident occurs less than three weeks of the legislative elections of 12 June.
Several armed groups – Kurds, Islamists and extreme left – have committed in past bombings in Istanbul.
Kurdish rebels of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) have multiplied in recent weeks, clashes with security forces in March after they threatened that they would end a unilateral cease-fire, declared in August 2010, deploring the failure of government to dialogue with the Kurds.
