Jewish Forced Out From Arab Lands

Jewish forced out from Arab lands.

·         From 1948 to the early 1970s Jewish people were forced from their homes and from the country. These Jews were primarily of Sephardi and Mizrahi background, from Arab and Islamic countries. The migration started in the late 19th century, but accelerated after the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.

When did they move?

They moved from 1948 to the early 1970s.

Why did they move?

The Arab league allegedly made a deliberate policy change and they persecuted jews. Some Jews also left because of the political instability.

Where did they move?

There were nearly 900,000 Jewish refugees. About 680,000 of these refugees went to Israel and the remainder went to Europe (mainly France) and America.

What were the consequences of them moving?

There were many refugees who failed to adjust to the new change of lifestyle and dominant culture. There were also several claims of discrimination, which led to many protests occurring which were led by the Israeli Panther movement. The World Organization of Jews from Arab Countries or WOJAC estimates that as a result of the expulsion of Jews from Arab countries the Jewish property left behind would amount to the value of 300 billion dollars.
