Opinion: Whitney Houston, a Booming Talent with a Troubled Life

His articulation of the words combined with the softness in its timbre created one of the greatest voices of all time.

debut album, Whitney Houston, produced by Arista Records. It was quiet, elegant and strong. It was also sweet and smiled easily.

But that does not seem important today, beyond taking into account the small detail that at that time women did not enjoy much support in the music industry. As in other professions, where a woman was a successful artist, he was accused of having diva airs, but all you really wanted was respect or did receive artistic recognition that men who were at their level.

But then, decency and quality of Whitney was recognized, and their joy by chanting became contagious. Her mother, Cissy Houston, and I suspect it was about had much to do for your daughter keep feet on the ground.

Whitney’s voice reached the top. When he sang, our emotions rose and then fell through projection. His articulation of the words combined with the softness in his ring gave rise to one of the greatest voices of all time.

As often happens with celebrities, who won fame was accompanied by an attention from the media that even she had imagined, some of it was not exactly positive. He was criticized after releasing his first two musical productions because they were not “black enough.” His ballads were disqualified because they supposedly lacked pace. Clive Davis, his mentor and executive producer, was accused of wanting to keep it in a style “white”. Of course none of that made sense, but I think it was painful.

I remember clearly one time when I was sitting next to a star that once had a reputation that approached that was Whitney, who loudly say to the people who accompanied her on her table how lucky she was Whitney, from their point of view, not worthy of success that accompanied it.

It was evident that there was jealousy and hostility towards her. But at the same time, the adulation of his fans to Whitney was tremendous. Expectations for her were very high. As an African-American superstar, marked difference in many important situations.

He lent his image to the movement against apartheid, helped AIDS activities and encouraged the young men and black women had more opportunities to access education programs. But no matter what you do, people always want more of it, just like all the stars. The public demand for their star is relentless.

I do not know what had caused her to approach the world of drugs, but I do think that perhaps his attempts to get away from all the intensity that surrounded her was one of the reasons that became dependent on them. Of course, addiction was the next step.

As indicated by the experts, no matter how aware you are of your drug habit or how big your desire to leave, since the chemical reaction that generated in the body called again and again. Where to stay sober becomes evident that a presentation was disappointing, a song was bad or received harsh criticism from the experts, the failure that we are able to support out of control when it is reproduced in the media around the world, so these reviews are available to people.

For some artists, their talent in a very precious gift, and honor him by loving and caring for themselves. But for other becomes a burden.

My favorite song is Whitney The Greatest Love of All, a hymn, passionate, with which you can learn to love yourself. It breaks my heart that the woman who inspired this song so much pride to suffer much by his own demons.

As Billie Holiday, Judy Garland, Elvis and a few others before her, that inner voice of doubt that we all feel just could not ever be the same level of public adulation.

Then all that seems to make sense is to stifle all external noise and distract from your own doubts leaning on drugs and alcohol. In many ways, by the people close to her, you know the risk he ran, but did not have the strength to change their situation. Despite its problems, could raise a wonderful daughter. That speaks much of his determined efforts to overcome their addiction.

I wish the media culture we live we had more opportunity to celebrate the positive aspects of living and people while striving to improve.

The musical legacy of Whitney Houston will be an inspiration for young artists. Without neglecting any aspect of his amazing talent, and after expressing my complete and total admiration for his career, I hope your troubled life after the spotlight also serve as an example.
