Racism Against Browns?

An insight into the less broadcasted side of racism.

As a brown person, I feel that racism against my kind is not revealed to the public, as much as racism against blacks. As much as I hate politics, i believe something should be done about this. We need to make the world aware, that blacks aren’t the only ones.

There are a variety of brown folks in the world. There’s people from Pakistan and Peru. People from Bangladesh and Brazil. Argentina and Afghanistan. Us brown people are a big percentage of the world. Then why do blacks get all the attention then? Is it because they’ve been around longer than us? Well, we can’t prove that. You won’t find much about South Asians or South Americans in your history textbooks. That doesn’t mean we weren’t there, just that we weren’t very popular.

However, Indians and Mexicans alike have been getting a little more familiar with typical life in the world. In a good way? Maybe not. But at least the world knows we’re there. We still do need quite a bit more publicity. Heck, at school I was a victim of racism. I wasn’t the most popular out there either.

Another problem is that many brown people want to act black or white. They believe it makes them cool. I’d tell them to embrace their own ethnicity and make it their own. Stand up for it. Walking in the hall and someone asks you, “Hey! Where’s your turban?”, what do you say? You come back and say “Where’s your world trade center?”.

We are the grey between the black and white. We need to show the world that we are a color too.
