10 Famous Love Gods and Goddesses

Love…love…love. Now it is the time for love as the V-day is coming. It has been a tradition of lovers to pray to certain gods and goddesses for the success of their love. Here is a list of some popular love gods and goddesses in different mythologies.

Cupid

Cupid is the most popular god of love. He is one of the valentine’s symbols.

God of: Erotic love and beauty

Famous for: Shooting his bow to inspire erotic love

Aphrodite

Aphrodite was born from the aphros (sea foam) when Cronus threw his father’s detached genitals into the sea after castration. Dove, swan and sparrow are sacred to her.

Famous for: Her beauty

Venus

Venus played a key role in many Roman festivals. She is very popular for her beauty.

Aengus

Aengus is belived to have four birds that symbolize kisses flying about his head.

God of: Love and youth

Inanna

Inanna is also considered as the lady of the sky.

Áine

Áine is believed to associate with the sun. She represents the light half of the year and bright summer sun.

Xochipilli

Xochipilli translates to “flower prince”. It is believed that he was associated with God of rains and God of Maize.

Famous for: Fertility and agricultural produce
