The Mayans had a greater understanding of time and the fluidity of it, but the end of one cycle is merely the beginning of another cycle. The Mayan people understood that time is not just a linear concept, but rather that time is circular. Thus, for them all that had happened would happen and all that was to come, had already happened. This is a concept that modern society has trouble embracing. However, the Mayans left the biggest piece of information in the very shape of their calendars. It was there understanding of time, that allowed them to foresee events.

At the end, of this cycle in the calendar another cycle will once more begin. Most would rather believe that this is the end of humanity rather than a new beginning. Modern religions have taught people that there is an end and there will be salvation for the righteous at the end. Though, not actually listed in the gospels people have a belief in a Rapture. A day when the Lord will come and take all of his chosen people to heaven. Now the Bible does speak of the chosen from the tribes of Israel. However, is says that only 144,000 will be taken to live with the Lord. For that is the number of the chosen ones.

The are roughly six and a half billion people on the planet and if people are to believe the gospel it suggest that only a small fraction of the population is worthy of the Lord. With those odds, most people would be left to a less desirable fate. Of course, this all comes from the book of Revelations, which is the one book that doesn’t actually fit in with the rest of the biblical texts. The reason for this is because, the entire book is about the dream that John had. The only reason that is was put into the bible was because of the message of return of Jesus and the signs that would be seen.

Anything can be sign it is only how a person interprets something that gives it meaning. It goes back to the simple argument that reality is only a matter of perspective. Thus, people see things differently and how those events are seen is what gives them meaning. However, a person cannot perceive anything that is beyond their understand, that is to say that without a point of reference people cannot believe anything to be reality.

What is more than likely going to happen in 2012?

Well one scenario is nothing. But with human nature factored in to the equation, it is more than plausible that something will happen. People often set into motion a series of events that are intended to fulfill prophecies. And with the tensions that are building in the world, the most probable out come is a massive war. Possibly a third global war that will encompass the globe and bring with it an extreme death toll. That would bring the Mayan Prophecy to life.

The circular aspect brings about the rebirth of humanity, or a new age of man. And the thoughts of that scare people. Because, if that were to happen it is quite possible that the survivors would unite not as nations, but as humans rebuilding a civilization and creating a new future. More than likely, this would bring about the end of national governments and give rise to a single human government that would ensure that humanity will have a lasting peace.

We may be on the verge of World War III, and the road ahead may be the most trying that any society has faced. But humanity will learn from it, and those events will give rise to a new age of humanity and will lead us to places that we have only imagined. And the problems of today, will be only a distant memory, and then a note in a history book.

People may fear the prospect of another world war, but what scars them more is the unknown. There is no way to say with accuracy what will come after today. But that is why many find strength in religion. It gives them a sense of certainty about tomorrow and beyond. Whether it is through the Mayan Calendar or Christianity or some other means, people are constantly searching for the answers of tomorrow and the meaning of life.

No matter how a person looks at the world today it is clear that everything is constantly changing. And humanity is on the verge of a change, a new era mankind. What will it bring with it is the mystery. But instead of looking for all of the answers, people need to remember what they learn along the way. For it is not about the destination, but it is about the journey. In actuality there is no destination, that would mean that there is an end. Humanity, is a continual cycle, thus there is not an end. It is a never ending journey, and every day is a new experience that humanity can learn from.

It is said that we learn from our history. However, many may not pay attention to that history. And in addition to that, history is only written by the victors, so it is not objective. And the events, are never recorded with accuracy. The Mayans may have also realized this and that may have been one of the factors that allowed them to predict events as cycles. If things are never recorded with accuracy, it is inevitable that they will be repeated. Because, the simple fact is that a lesson cannot be learned when there is a lack of objectivity.

Basically, there will be a change, and even if it does seem to be dire in nature, from it there will be a new beginning.
