This is a story is from around the time of Columbus. It is a legend about an island that is to be somewhere in the Caribbean, its name is Feminea.

Feminea was supposed to have been ruled by a very beautiful and wise queen. Everyone that lived on this island were women. If any men came sailing by and tried to come ashore, these women, who were said to be very fierce fighters, would fight them and keep them off.

Now there would come a time period every year. For just three months, any men that came along would be permitted on the island. The women would give feasts and make love to the men. They would do this so they could continue their population. At the end of the three months, the men were made to leave and with them all male children were sent with them.

They say Columbus believed in this legend an so did many other sailors believe in Feminea.
