Ancient mythology is a wonderful gift to modern society. It was not only boosted the imagination of humans of all races but also enhanced the origin of all sort of phenomenon, people or cultures into fascinating story.

Today, I would love to share the following mythology in Chinese to all reader. Where are human come from? Let’s examine this aspect through mythology. It is fun and beyond imagination. Sometimes, I am amazed by the imagination of our ancestor. Almost every culture has their own version of how humans created. We heard about Adam and Eve, In the Sumerian mythology, human was created by the chief of medical, Enki to work for them. Wait, this is not about Sumerian, but an example where I wish to point out.

Okay, enough for the prologue. Thanks you for still bear with me. All right, buckle up. Here we go.

According to any Chinese mythology, you could ask anybody who have a little knowledge of Chinese culture, they will tell you the same name. She is Nü-Wa, or Nü- Ku.

First of all, there are plenty of versions about Nü-Wa. She is a mythical creation. In ancient record, she is human head with serpent body. Like most of ancient cultures god and goddess, she had both human and animal forms. She was also famous for mending the sky with five great stones.

It was said an eon time, the sky had a giant hole due to a great war. Rain was pouring down incessant and there was flooding everywhere. People were suffering in great deal. She felt compassion for them, so she selected five stones in five different colours and zones and practicing magic on them. Eventually, the stones were used to mend the hole in the sky.

This particular story was very intrigue for me. As we now know the ozone layer has a big hole and it seemed the ancient mythology was referring to the same happening.

However, like all mythology, there were simply no traces to the veracity of the story.

Now, in ancient inscription, human being was created by Nü-Wa. The story goes; she made the human out of the clay mound. Then, she sprinkled them on the ground and every little sprinkle turned out to be a human being.

Interesting aspect about Nü-Wa’s creation of humans is, she did not create humans based on her own appearance. In ancient inscription such as “Huai Nan Zi” and “San Hai Jing”, Nü-Wa was human head with serpent body and she had the ability to change her form seven times per day according to the latter inscription. In “Huai Nan Zi”, it was said that Nü-Wa had seventy disguise.

Like most of the mythology in the world, Nü-Wa left behind a bountiful of questions and some ancient scholar such as Qu Yuan had been asking the same question—who was this Nü-Wa? Is she a she? Or perhaps we think Nü Wa is a she as Nü means female in Chinese.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading this article as much as I enjoy writing it.
