Aphrodisiacs

by sunshine926 in Folklore, September 13, 2009

For centuries, certain foods such as oysters, bananas, avocados, ginseng root and rhinoceros horn have been said to arouse sexual desire and sexual performance in men and women.

Aphrodisiacs are substances that arouse sexual desire or enhance sexual performance. For example, bananas, asparagus, carrots and avocados are among some of them. Yet, according to studies, oysters are very high in zinc and protein, which is necessary for sperm production. According to studies, bananas are rich in potassium and B vitamins, necessary for sex hormone production. It has been said that Adam and Eve started covering their bodies with banana leaves instead of fig. The avocado, on the other hand, is a delicious fruit known for its soft texture. It can be served in slices with a small amount of vinegar and pepper.

Does anyone know the origin of the word Aphrodisiac? It comes from Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, beauty and sexual desire in mythology. Aphrodite had the power to seduce any man. Among her lovers, the most famous was Adonis.

Furthermore, it is said that the Romans placed oysters in their list of favorite aphrodisiacs. In addition, any type of pasta cooked in wine makes a good aphrodisiac. According to research, garlic is said to stimulate sexual desire. A bowl of Shrimp Scampi pasta from Cheesecake Factory cooked in light garlic sauce may lead to something spicy later on in the bedroom. On the other hand, certain spices and herbs used when cooking certain dishes are known to help achieve better intimacy for men and women. For instance, some of the spices and herbs used when cooking Asian food are very potent. Although it hasn’t been confirmed yet whether alcohol is an aphrodisiac, a glass or two of wine can greatly enhance a romantic encounter. The Greeks and Romans considered Truffles to be an aphrodisiac. It is said that chocolate contains chemicals thought to effect neurotransmitters in the brain and a related substance to caffeine called theobromine. Why not add a glass of red Cabernet with a few Truffles from Godiva.
