Astrology and Its Implications
Just how useful is astrology?
Growing up in India means that you grow up with the shadow of astrological predictions on you. At your birth an astrologer will be charged with the duty of making your astrological birth chart. Then an astrologer, most likely an old man who the family has trusted with many babies futures, will be brought in to give a brief prediction of the baby’s life.

The chart is then studied and a few predictions made. This will be written down and kept for later perusal. In case some difficulties or defects are found in the chart, the astrologer will offer solutions to them as well. These solutions are often quite interesting.

Some times you might be asked to appease a particular God with some specific prayers. At other times you will be expected to wear some particular luck charm on your arm or as a necklace. There have been instances of tying things on the ankles as well. I remember being told to wear a pearl on a ring on my left hand’s smallest finger because I was too fanciful.
Do these “solutions” really work? Or is the perceived positive effect more of a Hawthorn Effect? The question is debatable. For those who have faith in them they seem to work miracles. For others not so convinced it can seem like a con job. The truth is that the effect is somewhere in between the two extremes.
Yes there is some amount of energy harvesting done which can work towards a person achieving his goals. The same principle is applicable in Reiki and Pranic Healing. These have had tested results and so have the gemstones. So astrology is also an ancient science and if used by an experienced individual can be highly accurate.

What you need to watch out for is that fly by night con artist who will fleece you. Just as you go to a reputed doctor and a specialist when you need medical treatments done, it is advised to go to a reputed astrologer and not some one who dabbles in astrology as a hobby.

While personally I believe in not knowing what the stars hold for me, there are others who feel comforted by having their futures predicted. So the option of visiting an astrologer is open to them. Would you visit an astrologer if you had a question about your future?

Since I am one with know knowledge of astrology your piece was a good read. There seems to be less room for doubt than with those who claim to be psychic or who read palms. I wouldn’t pay much to learn my future–there’s not that much of it left. lol.

Ken, some people can live with the unknown others like to plan ahead. So some will pay some won’t!

Would go to an Astrologer but probably not plan my life on the basis of what was said. Would be interesting though for sure.

Interesting piece. I’ve always been ambivalent about astrology, mainly because it will always be with us whatever we might feel about it: people will always want to know what lies ahead. Although whether the movements of the stars actually map our futures or whether we unconsciously modify our behaviour to reflect any advice given is another matter!
