Coyote Totem Animal

My interpretation of the coyote totem and what it represents.

Coyote

Element: Earth

Key Concepts To Ponder: Playful, trickster, humor, inner-child, consequence of action, cutting through illusions, and being able to laugh at yourself.

Coyote has been labeled as the “trickster” of totem animals for a very long time. He is known for having a very cunning and stealthy personality and tends to make his presence known with humorous experiences.

While this persona is very true, it is not the only wisdom that coyote shares as a totem. Coyote is known as a protector and is very serious about ensuring the safety and well being of his family. Since he represents the trickster personality, those with a coyote totem will be able to sense and protect themselves from foolishness only they can see. This is a fabulous ability to have as it will help you sense when others are trying to “pull the wool over your eyes”, so to speak.

Coyote is also very gifted in negotiations and bartering. He will help you see if you are falling into a trap or how to remove yourself from a trap if you have been caught. Those with a coyote totem need to be ready for blunt honesty, as coyote will definitely show them how they may be fooling themselves regarding certain situations.

Coyote is a wonderful totem to embrace in your life when you are trying to cut through illusions and get to the truth. All distractions will cease and you will be able to not only see the big picture, but will be able to focus and see how everything is connected. This is definitely a gift that will come in handy in your life.

Messages:

If coyote has come into your life perhaps it is time to loosen up and have some fun. While coyote stands for a lot more than just a trickster, sometimes humor and fun are necessary in life when under a great deal of stress. Coyote will teach you how to embrace your inner child and have fun again like you did when you were a child. He will teach you how important it is not to only have fun, but to be able to laugh at yourself in the process. Individuals with coyote as a totem are in for a very fun ride so hold on tight, go with the flow, and enjoy the adventure.

Have you been feeling like someone is attempting to make you look foolish or take advantage of you? Are you disillusioned about your life and your path right now? Is it time to open up and have some fun? Do you find it very hard to just “let go” and have fun? Are you able to freely laugh at yourself or do you condemn yourself for mistakes that you make? Coyote is a very powerful totem that will help you with these problems if you embrace him and welcome him into your sacred space.

this past sunday morning I woke earlier than usual and was COMPELLED to walk my dog in the woods a lot earlier than I normally do . . . I was drawn to take the path into the deeper woods , a path I haven’t taken all summer . . no sooner did I make this decision and turn the corner in that direction, than I saw, standing majestically right in the path, a coyote. I stopped, called my dog to heel and sit beside me, leashed her and told her to stay. She never moved a muscle in the five minutes that followed. My heart was bursting with . . well Love, and Joy! I began by saying to her, “Good morning! I woke up up early this morning just to meet YOU!”
I stood ther for at least 5 minutes, speaking softly to her, telling her she was beautiful, and just drinking in the sight with my eyes. Except for raising her head and smelling the air in an arc over her head, she stood perfectly still looking at me . . maybe 20 yards away.During all this Love and joy, the thought did occur that maybe I shouldn’t get too friendly’ish with a wild thing and there was a moment of awarness of concern for my dog . . but mainly it was an almost surreal experience. When she tentetivly took a step toward us, I told her politly, that WE would be leaving now and heading in the OTHER direction(!) . . and have a lovely day!
I’ve been 6 feet off the ground for the last week ! At moments I wonder if I dreamed it! Now I’m wondering if my totem is Coyote . . and if something crazy is about to happen to my already nutty life!
I’ve been hearing the coyotes for a couple of years but haven’t seen one till now.
