Cronos

Greek God Cronus and his story.

Cronus’ parents are Ouranos and Gaea. Ouranos and Gaea had many children, including Cronus, Hecatonchires, Gigantes, Erinyes, Cyclopes, Rhea, Coeus, Phoebe, Oceanus, and Tethys. These other Titans are Cronus’ siblings. Cronus and his sister Rhea married and had six children: Zeus, Hades, Hera, Hestia, Poseidon, and Demeter.

Ouranos banishes Gaea’s two largest children in Tartarus. Cronus agrees to help Gaea, so he takes Gaea’s adamant sickle and cuts off Ouranos’ genitals when Ouranos is laying down with Gaea. Ouranos’ blood that flowed onto the Earth (onto Gaea) created Gigantes, The Furies, and Meliae. Aphrodite emerged from Ouranos’ genitals that were thrown into the sea. After conquering Ouranos, Cronus married Rhea and ruled during a time known as the golden age.

Rhea started giving birth, but Cronus ate every child in fear of being overthrown like his father. Rhea, feeling depressed, hid her last child, Zeus in a cave in Crete where he was raised by Adamanthea. When Zeus grew up, he used a poison to make Cronus vomit the children he ate. Zeus also frees Gaea’s children from Tartarus. The gods and the Titans fight for ten years. This war is known as the Titanomachy.
