Daedalus and Icarus

The old story of Daedalus and Icarus. This explains pretty much everything if you don’t already know the legend.

Then, more events took place. Ariadne was left at an island because the gods advised so. Ariadne took out revenge for him by asking the gods to give vengeance. The gods made Theseus forget his promise to put up white sails, and when the king saw the ship with black flags, he threw himself in the ocean below him.

When Minos saw Daedalus had a part in the killing of the Minotaur, he imprisoned him and his son in the labyrinth. Daedalus did not want to rot with Icarus, so he devised a plan to get him out of there. He thought for little time until his genius saw the birds and how free they were, and decided to copy them by building two pairs of wings, one for himself and one for his son. When they were ready, the wax used as glue was attached to both of them. Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too high, for that would melt the wings off, or too low, for that would drown him. Icarus forgot what his father said, flying too high in the excitement of freedom, and drowning in the see below.

Some say there was the spirit of the mother of Talos watching him fall, laughing in delight. The tale has many views; some say different events have happened, like why Aegeus killed himself. This story might not have been completely figured out, because of the complexity. There are many stories also in this time period that are interesting, like Homer’s tale about Odysseus. Humans should make sure to preserve what we have now so others can see what we have done in our period.
