December 21, 2012
A short reasoning on why some people may believe in the new world starting in 2012.
For centuries many groups have believed in many possibilities of a “doomsday”. Although, there is one date that stands out from all of the rest. That date is December 12, 2012. Many cultures from years and miles apart believed in this one common endpoint of Earth itself. Another name for 2012 could be the second Y2K also known as year two thousand. Even with all the hype of doomsday, there are still many people who stand to believe that there will be the end of the world thousands of years from now and then there are the ones who believe that the end of the world is near…
Groups
Many groups from centuries apart all believe in one common year of destruction. There are three main groups which are the Mayans, Hopi, and the Hindu. With the great distance of land and time parting these groups of people, the correlation is still there.
Mayans
The years of the Mayans existed from about the years 500-1000 B.C and their main homeland was Mexico. With the invention of the Mayan Calendar, it is the main source for the belief of doomsday in 2012. The Mayans based their predictions on very detailed astronomical predictions based on the stars and the orbit of the planets. The Mayan Calendar only presents the cycles that are supposed to come. Coming in waves of thousands of years. The belief that affects many lives now is that 2012 is the end of the 4th cycle. Therefore, after 2012 the start of the 5th cycle will begin and mankind will start over again. Although the Mayans could predict the next cycles of mankind, they did not seem to realize their last days on Earth as they mysteriously disappeared.
Hopi
The Hopi people are a tribe of Indians mainly living on special reservations now. The Hopi beliefs are very similar to the ones of the Mayans. They believe that man is on its fourth creation of life. The Hopi are more detailed than the Mayans for the fact that the Hopi directly believed that the end of the creations of mankind would all lead in destruction where as the Mayans on state that life will start over and no destruction is mentioned. The Hopis believe that the end is near when man forgets the will of the Creator. In other words, the people of Earth slowly destroy other people in hopes of helping.
Hindu
As the above beliefs, the Hindu believe that Kali Yuga will end in 2012. Kali Yuga is another way of saying that they believe that mankind comes in cycles. It just so happens to be that Kali Yuga is the name the Hindu gave this period of life on earth. They also believe that after 2012 the Golden Age will start. The Golden Age is where the beginning of greater knowledge will become. There are four cycles or stages according to the Hindu and the four stages are:
· Satya Yuga
· Treta Yuga
· Dwapara Yuga
· Kali Yuga
After all of the cycles have gone through once, the last, Kali Yuga, will end in destruction whole Satya Yuga is being rebuilt. While one of the other stages is ending, only downfall in economy, global warming, and natural disasters become of the earth. The Hindu create their predictions from many solar and lunar calendars created by other groups.
