Doomsday: December 12, 2012

End, doom, disaster, massacre, slaughter, misery, these are all words that have been described as to what is to happen on December 21, 2012, Doomsday. The world may come to an end within three years, some have predicted on December 21, 2012 some type of major catastrophe may occur, and will change the world. Between the Mayan calendar coming to an end, St. Malachy Prophecies of 112 popes, and Nostradamus predictions of a major natural disaster, never before has one day in history been predicted by so many sources to change lives.
The amazing, accurate calendar of the Mayans ends on December 21, 2012. The Mayan calendar foretells the world will end on this date. The creation of the Mayan calendar goes back more than 2000 years ago and is very, very accurate. “The Mayan calendar is so accurate, that is could predict solar and lunar eclipses many of thousands of years in the future” (Burke 45). “The Mayan calendar was so ahead of its time, 2000 to be exact, that I would bet humans would be living on Mars 2000 years in the future” (Nicholas 56). Any calendar of this accuracy, and was created around Jesus’ time, comes to an end on one day, there is usually meaning behind it.
In the 12Th century there was a bishop named St. Malachy, St. Malachy had a calling where God gave him descriptions and/or a coat of arms of every pope from his time until the end of the world. There were exactly 112 popes on this list and currently we are pope number
111. “So far every coat of arms and description of the popes matches up exactly. From Celestine II, the first on the list, to the last, Benedict XVI, every pope has been right on target” (Clement 11). Benedict XVI is growing old, and his life may possibly be coming to an end, the next pope would be number 112 and last of the list.” The list of St. Malachy is a very credible document. He has been able to successfully name the last 111 popes. I couldn’t imagine he would be getting the last one wrong either. So when that day comes for the 112Th, there is going to be many distressed, panicked people” (Scott 1). It is predicted that when pope number 112 comes into throne, the world, according to the list of St. Malachy will come to an end.

For me, it’s a matter of doing the things that I need or love to do before the end comes. So while I still have some time, I’ll spend it doing what I love and with the people that I love so it won’t matter if the end is on 2012 or not.
