England’s Haunted Houses
Ghostly hauntings in England.
England is reputedly the most haunted place in the world and there are certainly no shortage of stories to back up its claim. From poltergeists who terrorize families to benign ghosts trapped in the world they loved so much, there are literally thousands of tales to be told. Here are some of the most interesting cases.
The Enfield Poltergeist
It all began in 1977 at a council house in Enfield, London and it was to continue for a year. The Hodgson family had lived in their home all their lives and, although, the family had not always had an easy time, they were all seemingly happy individuals. The family consisted of Mrs Hodgson and her 3 children, one of whom was at the centre of the occurrences.
Janet Hodgson was 11 in 1977 when things at her family home began to get strange. The children all reported to their mother that their beds had been shaking violently in the night. Of course, she did not believe them at first and thought they were just playing childish games with her. That was all to change one night when she herself witnessed a chest of drawers slide across the room of their own free will. She pushed it back, bemused at what was happening, but, once again it dragged itself across the floor. When she tried to move it again, it would not budge. It was as if it had been glued to the spot. By this point she was beginning to panic and decided it would be best to leave, so, she gathered up the children and fled to her neighbours house.
When the neighbours went to investigate her house they could all hear a strange knocking sound which seemed to be coming from inside the walls of the house. Fearing there may be an intruder in the house, Mrs Hodgson’s worried neighbours contacted the police. When they arrived, the police could not detect anything wrong inside the house, however, they too heard the strange knocking sounds.
After that night, things got steadily more terrifying for the Hodgson family as things were thrown around and moved and even the children apparently levitated. During this time, members of the press and noted paranormal researcher Maurice had moved in with the family and were documenting their case. Many of these independent witnesses saw objects moving of their own accord and often had things thrown at them.
