It Came From the Deep
by Since the invention of sailing, sailors have created stories of horrible beasts that roamed the oceans, taking pleasure in sinking ships and eating crew.

One of the most popular of these beasts is the kraken. The kraken was supposed to have been well over one hundred feet long, and able to sink a ship all by its lonesome. But, where did this rumor generate? Some believe that giant squid are the culprit. These squid can grow to be more than 40 feet long, and live in the depths of the ocean. Rare occurences have been known to happen when a giant squid surfaces such as in Japan when scientists were able to catch a giant squid with a net.
Normally, squid grow to be about half the size of a giant squid or less. These squid also show themselves more frequently. Many have tried to capture or sight a “kraken” or giants squid and to some avail. The popular “Monster Quest” show has tried to sight one by attaching a camera to a smaller squid and seeing if it will find a giant squid. Soon enough, a large, tentacled creature shows itself for about three seconds.
