Knotted Things
A true account about the knot fairy and its antics.
Does anyone believe in the knot fairy? no I didn’t think any of you would, well I can assure you it exists, I refer to it as it as no one that I have ever spoken to is sure of its gender, But I have heard that it lives in a commune along with other mischievous imps, such as the sock goblin, and the toothpaste cap thieving elf, and other mythical beasts that are a blight on the human race. If you are a believer there is not much point in reading on, but for the infidel to read on is a must, stay with me, and I promise that by the end of this story, you will be converted. It is a well known fact that if you have anything long, thin and of a flexible nature, the knot fairy will strike, examples include string, rope wool and cotton, these have been the playthings of the knot fairy since the dawn of man, but in more recent times, in the age of electricity, the fairy has found a host of new possibilities. But first we will go back to ancient times, when man only had a few long, thin and flexible things, such as string, wool, rope and cotton, and it was soon noted by the great scholars of the time, that if you left a piece of string laid out straight, and then went to bed, when you got up in the morning, there would be a knot in it, no one knows how it got there but it did, this happened every where in the world, for like the tooth fairy, SantaClause, and god the knot fairy is both omnipotent and omnipresent, it is also ambidextrous. People soon tired of having their bits of string tampered with, and they turned to their gods for an answer, sacrifices were made, and gifts were left on alters, and finally after much praying, many sacrifices, (some say too many) and a lot of gifts, (all nicely wrapped, with little tags on) One high priest had a vision, he saw a piece of string encased in bees wax, so it came to pass that all peoples of the civilised kept their pieces of string encased in bees wax, until such a time that they needed them. Many years passed, and one day someone left their newly encased string out on the wall to cool, and while it was cooling a storm moved in and the man went inside for shelter, he watched the storm through the window, and while watching he saw lightning strike his piece of string, it caught fire, but the man was amazed that his string didn’t burn straight down, but rather burned with a slow even flame. Thus the birth of the candle, named after the man who discovered it Mr Candolopalos.
